Adding Quran to Your Homeschool Curriculum

September 24, 20262 min readBy Nouf Quran Academy

Homeschooling gives Muslim families a rare freedom: the Quran can sit at the centre of the school day rather than squeezed in after it. Here's a simple framework.

Start the day with Quran

Many homeschooling families begin each morning with 20–30 minutes of Quran before other subjects, when children are fresh.

A sample plan by age

Age Daily Quran block Focus
4–6 15–20 min Noorani Qaida, short surahs by ear
7–10 25–30 min Reading from the mushaf, short surahs
11–14 30–40 min Tajweed rules, memorization
15+ 30–45 min Hifz, Arabic, Tafseer

Combine teacher and parent roles

Parents often teach most subjects, but Quran recitation benefits from an expert ear. A common model: a one-to-one teacher two or three times a week for new material and correction, with parents supervising daily practice in between.

Integrate across subjects

  • History: the life of the Prophet ﷺ and the story of how the Quran was compiled.
  • Geography: Makkah, Madinah and the lands in Quranic stories.
  • Language arts: Arabic vocabulary from the surahs your child is memorizing.
  • Character: our guidance topics pair verses and hadith with everyday situations.

Track progress

Keep a simple log: pages read, surahs memorized, Tajweed rules mastered. It doubles as a record for homeschool reporting.
