Waqf (Stop) Signs
The stop signs found in the Quran's mushaf and what each one means.
| Sign | Name | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| م | Waqf Lazim | Must stop here |
| ط | Waqf Mutlaq | Preferable to stop |
| ج | Waqf Ja'iz | Permissible to stop or continue |
| لا | Laa Taqif | Do not stop here |
| صلى | Waqf Murakhkhas | Better to continue; stopping is permitted |
| قلى | Qeela Alayhil-Waqf | Better to stop; continuing is permitted |
| ∴ ∴ | Mu'anaqah | Stop at one of the two matching dots, not both |
