Learning the Quran as an Adult: It’s Never Too Late
Embarrassed that you can’t read the Quran as an adult? The Prophet ﷺ promised a double reward to those who struggle. How adults learn Quran online, step by step.

Many of our students in the USA, UK and Europe are adults who never had the chance to learn as children — converts, busy parents, professionals. Almost all of them tell us they wish they had started sooner.
Struggling brings a double reward
Narrated Aisha:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Such a person as recites the Qur'an and masters it by heart, will be with the noble righteous scribes (in Heaven). And such a person exerts himself to learn the Qur'an by heart, and recites it with great difficulty, will have a double reward
The Quran has been made easy
وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
“And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember”
أَوۡ زِدۡ عَلَيۡهِ وَرَتِّلِ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ تَرۡتِيلًا
“Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation”

A realistic path for adult learners
- Weeks 1–8: Noorani Qaida — letters, vowels and joining, with correct pronunciation from day one.
- Months 2–6: reading short surahs and then the mushaf slowly, with a teacher correcting you live.
- Alongside: basic Tajweed rules so your recitation is correct, not just fluent.
- Two or three 30-minute one-to-one classes a week is enough for steady progress.
One-to-one online classes remove the embarrassment of learning in a group of children. You set the pace, and a teacher of your preferred gender corrects you privately.
Frequently asked questions
Can I learn to read the Quran at 30, 40 or 60?
Yes. Adults usually learn faster than children because they are motivated and consistent. Most adult beginners can read slowly from the mushaf within a few months of regular classes.
How long does it take an adult to learn to read the Quran?
With two to three 30-minute classes a week, most adults complete Noorani Qaida in 4–8 weeks and can begin reading the Quran with a teacher shortly after.
