Fajr in the UK Summer: A Quran Routine for Short Nights

September 24, 20262 min readBy Nouf Quran Academy

If you live in the UK, you know the summer problem: Isha comes late at night and Fajr arrives only a few hours later. Morning recitation — the time many teachers recommend — can feel impossible. It doesn't have to be.

Option 1: Recite straight after Fajr, then sleep

Many families pray Fajr, recite a few verses or revise a memorized surah for 10 minutes, then go back to sleep before work or school. Ten focused minutes after Fajr beats an hour you never get to.

Option 2: Move your main slot to the afternoon

In summer, the long gap between Asr and Maghrib is useful. A 20–30 minute session after Asr — or a one-to-one class in the late afternoon — keeps progress steady without cutting into sleep.

Option 3: Use Maghrib to Isha

On weekends especially, the time between Maghrib and Isha can hold a longer revision session, and it's a lovely time to recite together as a family.

Keep memorization and revision separate

  • New memorization needs a fresh mind: afternoons or weekends in summer.
  • Revision can happen anywhere: in the car, in your prayers, while walking.

The Prophet ﷺ warned that the Quran escapes from memory faster than a camel escapes its rope (Sahih al-Bukhari 5033), so a little daily revision matters more than long weekly sessions. See our guide to revising what you've memorized.

Summer holidays are an opportunity

With school out, children have more daytime energy. It's a great time for a short intensive — see our summer intensive plan.
