Winter in the UK: Short Days, Early Maghrib and a Simple Quran Routine
When British Summer Time ends in late October, UK prayer times change dramatically. Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib squeeze into the short daylight hours, and Maghrib can come before many people finish work. Winter is actually one of the best seasons for Quran — if you adjust your routine.
Why winter is a gift
Long nights mean an easy Fajr at a reasonable hour and plenty of time after Isha. Short fasting days in winter are also a great time to make up missed Ramadan fasts.
A sample winter routine for families
- After Fajr (7:00–7:15 am): children recite one short surah before breakfast.
- After school (4:30–5:00 pm): one-to-one lesson before dinner.
- After Isha: 10 minutes of revision or reading together.
For working adults
Maghrib often arrives during the working day in December. Evening one-to-one classes at 7 or 8 pm work well once you're home, and the long evening leaves time for revision afterwards.
Keep lessons consistent through the clock change
The week the clocks change is when routines break. Keep lesson times the same in UK clock time. We adjust our schedule automatically, so your child's 5 pm lesson stays at 5 pm.
Make the most of the Christmas holidays
The two-week school break is a natural time for a mini-intensive: daily 20-minute lessons can finish several Qaida lessons or a group of short surahs. See our school holidays plan.
