How to Choose an Online Quran Teacher: 8 Questions to Ask

A good Quran teacher can shape a child's relationship with the Quran for life — and so can a bad one. Before you commit to any online academy (including ours), ask these questions.

1. What are the teacher's qualifications?

Look for recognised credentials: Hifz of the Quran, an ijazah (a certified chain of recitation) in Tajweed, or an Aalim/Aalimah degree. Ask which ones the specific teacher holds, not just "our teachers".

2. Can I choose a male or female teacher?

Many families prefer a female teacher for daughters and young children. It should be a simple request. See online Quran classes with a female teacher.

3. Is there a free trial?

A trial lets you judge the teacher's patience, English and teaching style — and lets the teacher assess your level honestly.

4. Are classes one-to-one?

Group classes are cheaper but slower. One-to-one means your child recites for most of the lesson.

5. How is my child kept safe?

Ask about safeguarding: are teachers background-checked? Can parents sit in? Are lessons on a platform you can see?

6. How will I know my child is progressing?

You should get regular updates: which lessons are complete, what to practise, and any concerns.

7. How flexible is scheduling?

Check that the teacher can teach in your time zone — USA, UK or Europe — and what happens if you need to reschedule.
