Surah Yaseen: Themes, Structure and How to Memorize It

Surah Yaseen is the 36th surah of the Quran, with 83 verses revealed in Makkah. It is one of the most recited surahs in Muslim homes around the world.

Main themes

1. The truth of the message (verses 1–12): the Quran is wise, and the Prophet ﷺ is truly a messenger.
2. The people of the town (13–32): a town rejected its messengers, and a believing man came running from the far end of the city to support them.
3. Signs in creation (33–44): the dead earth brought to life, night and day, the sun and moon in their orbits, ships on the sea.
4. The Day of Judgement (45–68): the trumpet, the resurrection, and the fate of the righteous and the rejecters.
5. Allah's power to create and resurrect (69–83): ending with the powerful verse:

"His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, "Be," and it is." (Quran 36:82)

A note on narrations

Many popular statements about specific rewards for reciting Yaseen come from narrations that hadith scholars consider weak. Yaseen remains a beautiful surah to recite and reflect on — the benefit comes from the Quran itself.
