Learning Quran Together as a Couple

September 24, 20262 min readBy Nouf Quran Academy

Many couples want to grow closer to the Quran but struggle to find time individually. Learning together can solve both problems: it builds a shared habit and a shared purpose.

Why learn together

  • Accountability: it's harder to skip when someone is waiting for you.
  • Shared goals strengthen a relationship — see marriage in Islam, which describes spouses as a source of tranquillity, affection and mercy.
  • Modelling for children: kids who see both parents learning take the Quran seriously.

Ways to do it

1. Separate lessons, shared practice. Each spouse has their own one-to-one lessons at their level, then you practise or revise together a few evenings a week.

2. Same surah, same week. Pick one surah to memorize together — such as Al-Mulk — and test each other.

3. Read and reflect. After Isha, read a short passage with translation and discuss one lesson from it. Our Tafseer guide for beginners can help.

4. Pray together. Recite what you've learned in shared prayers at home.

When levels differ

It's common for one spouse to read fluently and the other to be a beginner. Separate lessons avoid pressure; many couples find it easier for a teacher, rather than a spouse, to correct recitation.
